Microsoft Project Training Webinar Series - Module 03b: Task Planning Part 2

Microsoft Project Training Webinar Series

In this third segment of our Microsoft Project Training webinar series Amanda will instruct users on the Topic Task Planning Part 2 with Microsoft Project.

Tasks Planning Part 2

In this webinar we move on to understand the use of lags and leads, and how they make for a flexible project schedule when the opportunity to do so is available. We also review constraints and deadlines, and which constraints to avoid and how deadlines are a great alternative.

Next we move on to Task Types, which is typically one of the more complex aspect of Microsoft Project and therefore least understand. Task types play an important part in creating a flexible project schedule and behaves as expected when either assigning and removing resources, recording actual work, adding additional work, and more. In addition to task types we also add in effort-driven scheduling and max units. Once users grasp these concepts, most everything else in Microsoft Project seems easy!

We know there is a project calendar and a resource calendar, but did you know there is a task calendar? Well there is, and we discuss when and how to use one! Followed by entering Work and Duration estimates, and when you would enter one vs. the other. This all boils down to duration-based planning vs. effort-based planning. One is typically easier and used by novice project managers. Once the technique is grasped, the more complex yet functional effort-based planning may be used. Well we teach you both! We will also cover recurring tasks and adding tasks to the timeline view.

Finally we look at ways to check the plan's duration and finish date once it's complete.
