The New Planner/Project for the Web Licensing and Team Member Task Updates

Summary

We get questions about licensing for this product regularly. "How do team members update their task progress, and what license is required?".

In this video we very quickly answer the licensing question, as well as demonstration the functionality from the Team Member's perspective. Therefore, please watch this video to get an understanding of how Team Members update their tasks with task progress in The New Planner/Project for the Web!

The New Planner

The new Microsoft Planner update will initially roll out in the Planner app for Microsoft Teams by spring 2024, while the web version will be released later in the same year. Tasks by Planner and To in Microsoft Teams will be renamed to "Planner." Furthermore, Microsoft Project for the web is anticipated to be renamed as Planner in the near future, but existing users will still retain access to the existing functionalities after the update.

Microsoft's latest cloud-based work and project management solution is called Project for the web. It offers effective work management capabilities that cater to various needs and roles. Whether you're a project manager or team member, Project for the web enables you to efficiently plan and oversee projects of any scale.

This solution is built upon the Microsoft Power Platform, which includes PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI, and the Microsoft Dataverse. All project-related data is securely stored within the Microsoft Dataverse, ensuring easy access and collaboration.

Introducing the New Microsoft Planner: Organize and oversee your tasks and plans in a user-friendly, recognizable interface.

Microsoft To Do, Microsoft Planner, and Microsoft Project for the Web are all being merged together into a simple and streamlined interface. Uncover a fresh approach to overseeing tasks for personal plans and team projects, as well as managing larger-scale endeavors that are in line with goals and important strategic objectives.

The updated Planner will smoothly adjust from basic task organization to corporate project management, giving individuals the ability to handle their work in a centralized location and expedite business results. Commencing early in 2024, the upgraded Planner application will be accessible within Microsoft Teams, with a web version arriving later in the same year. Register to receive priority notification about the preview release and general availability of the new Planner.

Find all the tasks you need to interact with easier than ever from a single location. You will be able to mange your tasks, to-do lists, as well as project plans in one simple, streamlines experience.

Tailor your work to suit your preferences and those of your teams, whether it's managing individual tasks or coordinating large team projects. Customize your plan with a variety of templates, views, and methods, such as lists, boards, timelines, and sprints. The new Planner experience offers familiar features like agile sprint planning, team workload management, aligning goals, custom fields, projects and tasks management, task assignment, and task history. Enjoy the functionalities you already use and appreciate in Project for the web within this updated Planner experience.

Gain a comprehensive overview of various projects. Customize, expand, and automate the updated Planner according to your organization's evolving requirements. The redesigned Planner, developed on the Microsoft Power Platform, allows personalized reporting using Microsoft Power BI and adaptable workflows using Microsoft Power Automate. It seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Viva Goals, aligning with your objectives and key results (OKR) to enhance planning and offer a broader perspective.

Boost results with artificial intelligence. By using straightforward prompts in everyday language, Copilot in Planner (launching in Spring 2024) will assist in creating fresh strategies, establishing objectives, monitoring progress, and adapting to modifications as projects develop. Copilot will offer assistance to you and your team, streamlining work and project management like never before.

Microsoft 365 integrations

With the new Planner, you can seamlessly manage your work by integrating it with other Microsoft 365 tools like Microsoft Loop, Microsoft Outlook, Viva Goals, and Teams. By bringing your existing Planner plans into a Loop workspace, you can conveniently keep track of your team's plan and other project content in one location. Additionally, any emails you mark as important in Outlook or tasks assigned to you during Teams meetings will be displayed in the Planner interface.

Task management in the New Planner for frontline teams

The New Planner will persist in incorporating task management functionalities for frontline institutions. With capabilities like task publishing, supervisors can outline the tasks to be accomplished across their frontline sites and track their completion. These functionalities were formerly part of what was known as the Tasks app in Teams, and we're transitioning them into the revamped Planner.
