Summary
In this video I walk through the steps to create a Project Center view that groups projects by Customer Service. Since I get this question quite often I thought it would be a good idea to create another video on this topic. Steps are as follows:
Create a Custom Lookup Table in Project Web App
- When logged into Project Web App navigate Server Settings.
- In Enterprise Data, select Enterprise Custom Fields and Lookup Tables.
- Scroll to the lower part of the page and in Lookup Tables for Custom Fields, click the New button.
- Enter a Name for the Lookup Table. In my case I chose Services.
- In the Lookup Table section, enter the available values to be selected in the Value column.
- Select the Sort Ascending radio button for Display order for lookup table.
- Click the Save Button.
Create a Custom Field that references the Custom Lookup Table
- Still in Enterprise Custom Fields and Lookup Tables, click the New button under Enterprise Custom Fields.
- Provide a Name for the Custom Field. In my case I selected Customer Service.
- Enter a Description if desired.
- Select an Entity type of Project.
- Select a Type of Text.
- In Custom Attributes, select Lookup Table, then select the Lookup Table you created in previous step.
- Click the Save Button.
Create a Custom Project Center View in Project Online
- Navigate Server Settings, then in the Look and Feel section, click Manage Views.
- Locate the Project Center views, we're going to use a copy of the default Summary view. Therefore, click anywhere in the cell of the Summary view except on the name.
- Click the Copy button.
- Provide a Name for the new view, then click the OK button.
- Now locate your new view in the Project Center area, and click on it's name to open for editing.
- In the Table and Fields section, add the new field you created. If desired, add any other fields you would like to the view. Use the UP and Down buttons to position them from left to right.
- Locate the Grouping section of the view page, then select your newly created custom field for the Group First By.
- Leave all other settings as they are and click the Save button.
Test Solution
Now go ahead and assign a Company Services value for several projects and test your results.
