Things only go wrong in training. I mean, if I’m going to work on something on my own everything works perfectly. But then I go to demo it for someone else or train someone and all hell breaks loose. This happened the other day when I was teaching a group of Portfolio Managers how to use Portfolio Analysis in Project Server. We got to Resource Analysis and noticed that a few of the projects had missing dates.

I could not figure out why for the life of me. The answer was right in front of me the whole time and once I discovered it, I felt like an idiot. Today, I was working with a colleague and just happened to notice the next column after ‘New Start’. It’s called ‘Has Resource Requirements’…. so guess what was causing the blank date fields? You got it. There were no resource requirements defined for that project.

So now you know what I know. Always look at ALL of the information in front of you. Sigh.
