What to do when looking at a Gantt Chart and seeing slipping tasks. Although there are several solutions, a better method to delay the Start Date of a task would be to incorporate a Lag. To clarify, a Lag in MS Project is merely a delay inserted prior to a tasks Start Date. When you create a Lag, you do so by entering the number of days the lag should be.
Therefore, if a task should be delayed by one calendar week, we would specify a Lag of 5 days. As a result, this method will leave all other data points intact (Work, Actual Start, etc.).
