Good Evening Folks,
On a recent discussion group, I added in my two cents on the discussion ‘Why should we migrate from Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2010 rather than Project Server 2007’. Well there is so much we could write here however rather than attempting to put a whitepaper topic in a blog, I thought that I would share with you my top three (3) reasons Why to Migrate to Project Server 2010.
Many people list the 'Implementation Pros' (for example: you will not need to migrate for a while, better integration with Outlook, no more ActiveX, increase development tool, rich BI reporting, and more). These are great reasons and could be enough to tip the favor towards Project Server2010 however there are several more User-based Pros in Project Server 2010.
Here are my top three (3) Reasons to Migration to 2010 (either from 2003 or 2007):
#1 reason: NEW Unified project and portfolio management (per Mateen's comment) this is the key to demand management. (2007 has a gateway however there are some limitations)
#2 reason: NEW Single (Time) Entry Mode provide unified time and task status updates This is HUGE reason for usability. Think of all those that will be entering time - this will save each team member at least 10-15 minutes a week. Think of that productivity gain or cost saving if you take each resource times the time/cost saving.
#3 reason: Enhanced and Simplified Administration - for those of you who though the enhancements from PS03 to PS07 were great. Wait until you see PS2010. One feature alone worth going to PS2010 is User Delegation and Project Permissions. I cannot tell you how much time this has saved and will continue to save Admins.
Hope this helps – what are your favorite reasons for migrating to Project Server 2010?
