I recently setup a deployment with Microsoft Dynamics CRM for intranet access via SSL.  When accessing external you would type “https://crm.serverName.com”.   Although the external access worked fine, when I tried to setup the Outlook connection I continuously received the error below:

What I noticed, is that I did not setup the correct URL in the deployment manager.  I therefore did the following:

  • Right-click on Microsoft Dynamics CRM and select Properties

  • In the resulting dialog box, navigate to the Web Address tab.  if you look, I did not yet change my Binding Type or url/port numbers to reflect the externally available content.  The next screenshot shows what needed to be specified.

  • What I should have done, is select the radio button for HTTPS, and specify the correct domain and port as shown below.

  • Once I made this change I did an IISRESET, and then I could successfully configure Outlook to connect to my Dynamics CRM environment!
