Recently one of our clients applied SP2 for SharePoint and Project Server 2010 and ran into issues while running SharePoint 2010 Configuration Wizard. The SharePoint Configuration Wizard was failing at step 2 with below error.
The log file didn’t have much useful error information and were showing only below exception.
“An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException was thrown”
The above error was not giving me any clue on what was going wrong. Finally I ran the ROI scan tool which helped me to narrow down the issue and proceed further with the configuration wizard. The ROI scan tool collects data about Office installations and helps to detect and troubleshoot installation and update errors. You can find the more information
ROI scan log file indicated that Project Sever 2010 and SharePoint 2010 has been upgraded to SP2, however the version number for language pack is at SP1. Finally I was able to run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard successfully after installing SP2 for language pack.
