Although it is possible to assign resources to summary tasks in Microsoft Project, it’s a bad idea. Assign resources to detail tasks only, otherwise you are duplicating the work that is calculated. In Project 2013, there’s even a built-in filter to help you make sure your schedules do include resources assigned to summary tasks. To use it:
- Go to the View Ribbon.
- Click on the drop down arrow next to Filter.
- At the bottom of the list, select More Filters.
- When you see the full list of default filters, scroll down and apply the Summary Tasks with Resources Assigned filter.
