Importing a local file into MS Project Server 2010

The first time I needed to do this in Project Server 2010 it took me a while to figure it out. It’s not that I didn’t know how to do it; I just couldn’t figure out WHERE to do it. In Project Professional 2007 there was an option to “Import Project to Enterprise” under the Enterprise Options. I couldn’t find this anywhere in Project Professional 2010!

To import a project into Project Server 2010, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you are connected to Project Server and then open the file you want to import.
  2. Choose File –> Save & Send.
  3. On the right hand side of the screen, check the box next to Use Import Wizard and then select Save As.

Following these steps will get you to the Import Project Wizard that walks you through each step needed to complete the process. An alternate option is to add the Import Project icon to the Quick Access menu.
